Relief Wood Carving
by Powell River Artist Norah LeClare
The type of carving seen in this portfolio is called relief wood carving, however, my speciality is replicating photos in wood whether it is a human, animal, a scene or cartoon. Typically, the carvings are done in burls (a hard, woody outgrowth on a tree), which are unique and beautiful.
I started carving in 1995 while living in Ucluelet, a small village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Beginning with wildlife under the instruction of master carver Terry McKinnon, I soon started doing faces and found my subject of choice.
Carvings for sale are noted and can be purchased by credit card or cheque.
