Needing something to do in the evenings I decided to give painting a try. The paintings are all 8” x 10”. If a painting catches your eye and you would like to help support my habit, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. No reasonable offer will be refused.
A Naked Tree
This mixed media painting uses modeling paste to provide texture. I like it enough to display it prominently in our living room.
Meh! .The photo this was based on was stunning. The painting not so much.
Modeling paste provided the texture in this painting, and, while it’s not terrible, to this artist’s eye it needs more translucence which is a real challenge using acrylics.
Seeing a photo of a nebula got me hooked on nature’s art form. One day I will have them displayed on a wall painted black with glow-in-the-dark stars.
This one is in the Orion belt. The photo on which it is based was used as the background for the qathet Studio Tour.
Capturing the translucence of the nebulas is a challenge. However, after seeing a video of an art form that uses resin to build layers, I gave it a go. It was a decidedly expensive undertaking with a whole lot of issues, including being able to take a photo with no reflection that captures the 3D effect.
